Trump announces Taiwan will purchase natural gas from Alaska, with $80 billion in procurement over the next 20 years

On the 14th, U.S. President Trump announced on Truth Social that Taiwan has committed to purchasing $70 billion to $80 billion worth of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Alaska, and has agreed to make an equity investment of $4.4 billion.

In his post, Trump stated that he had just launched the largest energy infrastructure project in Alaska’s history—the Alaska LNG project—noting that “a $50 billion infrastructure investment from South Korea is part of a trade and investment agreement they reached with me.”

Trump continued: “I am also announcing today that Secretary of Commerce Lutnick has secured a commitment from Taiwan to purchase $70 billion to $80 billion worth of Alaskan LNG—amounting to 30% of the pipeline’s capacity over the next 20 years. This is the largest off-take agreement in history.”

Trump added that Taiwan has agreed to a $4.4 billion equity investment, noting that “as this is now a U.S. federal government project, all necessary permits and authorizations have been secured, and it is ready to go.”
